My world travels

I just wanted to say a little bit about the past few months of my life. I've been traveling a lot, and really soaking it in. I hope I'm able to travel during the summers when I'm a teacher.


It all started when I took a class in Spring 08. The class, Communication Age, was about technology in communications, and the class took a trip over spring break to London. I fell in love with everything about the city. We were practically free to take it in, and we rode the Tube, London's subway system, we visited multiple museums, and we went shopping. It was the trip of a lifetime, and I became good friends with everyone else who went. Also during the nine days that we were there, a group of us took a day trip to Paris. It was unreal to actually be eating crepes near Notre Dame and standing on the Eiffel Tower. While we were all tired at the end of our single day, it was not long enough to take everything in. Thanks to taking that class, I can say I've been to two hugely exciting European cities, and I've even been considering studying abroad, or possibly student teaching, in London through SRU's study abroad program.














After school let out, I went with my parents and grandparents on a trip to Cancun, Mexico. We've been there before, but every time is a new experience. This year we were right in Cancun, and the blue ocean was beautiful from our 11th story rooms. The weather wasn't quite perfect; tropical storm Arthur blew through. But on the days that it was sunny I dove for seashells and splashed around in the ocean. It was always funny when a bigger-than-expected wave knocked one of us over, and when the ocean was too rough we lounged in the pools. We all had a great time.

Throughout the summer I went to visit my boyfriend, who lives in Erie. We also took mini trips to Ohio and New York on his motorcycle, which is always fun as long as it's warm out. One of the more notable day trips that we took was through wine country in New York. It was very beautiful riding past the rows of grape vines on one side and Lake Erie on the other. The week before school started, we went to New York, closer to NYC, to visit his aunt. His cousin took us into the city for a day, and my favorite part was probably the Toys 'R' Us in Times Square. It was huge! The candy section had Candyland characters throughout, and there were figures of Superman, Jack Sparrow, and a moving T.Rex inside. We also spent a lot of time in a huge mall near the house, and exploring the little town nearby.

The day after I got home from New York, it was time to move up to school for year three. I love to travel, and I really recommend it for everyone. Even if it's a day trip to a local destination, it's a great experience to have. I was really lucky to have gone to such a fabulous place with SRU, and every spring semester there are many classes going all over the place over spring break. The school picks up a lot of the tab, and while it's still not cheap, it is definitely worth the experience and friends you'll make on the way!
